About us

Nuna Behavioral Healthcare is a group private practice started by experienced practitioners who understood the disparities that BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent communities faced on a personal and professional level. We chose to stop selling our labor to a system that failed to support us and started working for ourselves.

Nuna (누나), is pronounced noo-na

"Nuna," which means "big sister" in Hangul (Korean), inspired our founder, Laura, who is herself a nuna.

Our founder was moved by stories from clients about their big sisters showing up for them during challenging times because they really understood where they were coming from—big sisters advocating for their mental health care or transporting them to appointments when their needs were dismissed at home. Nuna was established to honor the necessity of collaboration in providing care and the loving support offered by big sisters from chosen and intergenerational families everywhere.
